Vam Sat Salt-Marsh Forest Ecological Tourist Cente
Vietnam
Vam Sat is a great place for travelers who want to venture into the wild, but do not have the time to travel far from Ho Chi Minh City.
Location and history
Located in Can Gio District, Vam Sat lies between the two rivers Vam Sat and Long Tau. The area used to belong to Dong Nai Province before being merged into Ho Chi Minh City in 1978.
During the Vietnam/American War, bombs and defoliants destroyed Vam Sat. Nowadays, however, thanks to a large-scale reforestation program that was launched in 1996 there is a beautiful mangrove forest reserve where many monkeys and crocodiles thrive!
Activities at Salt-Marsh Forest Ecological Tourist Zone
There's a variety of activities that are offered at Vam Sat Tourist Center; both ecological and recreational aspects are included.
Ecological tour: visit the Bat Swamp, Crocodile farm (feed them fish over the fence!) and relax while bird watching.
Travelers are even encouraged to stay into the evening to join common activities of fishermen - catch crabs or shrimps (soi ba khia and xo tom). Also, you can have a camp fire or sing karaoke as a way of team building or making new friends!
