Jade Emperor Pagoda
Vietnam
Come to the Jade Emperor Pagoda to have a change of scene from the typical tourist attractions. Here you will see local men, women, and children praying during their lunch hours. This is not the most glamorous of pagodas, however, it truly offers a glimpse into the life of locals. It's a great place to relax, watch turtles, take some pictures, and enjoy your time for FREE. There are plenty of places to find a good local meal right nearby as well, with some restaurants on the same street.
This pagoda is on the edge of District 3 and Binh Thanh District. Also, four decades after the war, the first McDonalds ever built in Vietnam was built around the corner from the Jade Emperor Pagoda. This is absolutely a good enough reason to eat fast food in Vietnam if your heart desires.
Just another 30 meters past the McDonalds is the river - which is lined with a sidewalk and beautiful trees making it a perfect place for an afternoon or evening stroll. Another tip - you will see many coffee shops facing the river as you walk so make sure to get a 1 USD 'Ca phe da' or Vietnamese iced coffee, to cool down. Most places have take away cups.
