The art of Vietnamese water puppetry is an authentic cultural experience that you can't miss while in Hanoi. Stories from the daily Vietnamese life, community entertainment, festivals and historical legends are told with hand-carved wooden dolls and colorful dragons that perform on the water with local music.

Established in 1969, Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre is one of the best places to watch the art of water puppet shows. Every year, Thang Long Theatre offers about 500 shows to serve approximately 150,000 people. Moreover, the theater has brought water puppetry art to more than 40 foreign countries all over the world including Japan, France, America, Australia, Spain and many more through performance tours or international cultural exchange programs and puppetry festivals.

One show is a little under an hour in length. Booking tickets in advance is highly recommended as Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre is one of the most popular tourist attractions in town.
