Head to Tran Quoc Pagoda on West Lake, the oldest pagoda in Hanoi. Marvel at the centuries-old Bodhi tree gifted from India and feel the tranquil energy of this spiritual gem set against Hanoi’s largest lake. Next, visit the Ho Chi Minh Complex, including the Mausoleum, Stilt House, and One Pillar Pagoda. Learn about the life and legacy of Vietnam’s beloved leader, Ho Chi Minh. See the traditional stilt house where he lived and worked, a peaceful pond nearby, and the iconic One Pillar Pagoda. Continue to the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, showcasing the diverse cultural heritage of Vietnam’s 54 ethnic groups. Explore indoor exhibits and an open-air section with life-size ethnic homes, including stilt houses from the northern highlands and the Central Highlands. (Note: Closed on Mondays; we’ll replace this with a visit to Bat Trang Pottery Village or the Vietnamese Women’s Museum.) Enjoy a delicious Vietnamese lunch in the Old Quarter. Learn the art of incense-making from skilled artisans, including splitting bamboo, dipping the sticks into bright dyes, drying them in the sun, and carefully coating them with aromatic herbal powder. Take part in rolling incense sticks by hand. Head to Chuong, a village that has been well-known for the craft of conical hat-making for over 300 years. Get an observe how conical hats are made and decorate a hat by painting it then bring it home as a souvenir.
