Description
This is a short, real visit, not a souvenir stop. You cycle a short, easy route to the actual home of a White Thai grandmother, and spend time watching and trying a craft she has done her whole life.
① Cycle to Grandma's House
Meet your guide at your homestay or hotel in Mai Chau, then cycle/walk an easy, flat route through quiet rice fields and village paths on the way to Grandma's home, a relaxed ride, not a workout.
② Meet Grandma and Her Home
Arrive at the traditional stilt house where Grandma lives, an original White Thai stilt house, still lived in the traditional way, not a recreation for tourists. Grandma speaks only her local language, so your English-speaking guide stays with you the whole time to help you understand and connect with her, and to share her story.
③ Watch and Try Weaving Watch
Grandma weave brocade cloth by hand on her traditional loom, then sit beside her and try a few rows yourself, guided step by step. It is harder than it looks, most guests only manage a small section, and that is part of the fun. Ask questions through your guide about the patterns, colors, and meaning behind traditional Thai brocade.
Duration: about 2 hours round trip, including the ride there and back. No experience needed, suitable for most ages.
