Description
Begin your DMZ War Tour with morning pickup from your hotel in Hue. Travel north along Highway 1 as your guide introduces the history of the former Demilitarized Zone, the 17th Parallel, and the Vietnam War.
Along the way, your guide will share the story of the area known as the “Highway of Horror,” a section of Highway 1 connected to the 1972 Easter Offensive. During this period, many civilians and soldiers fled south from Quang Tri amid intense fighting. Today, the story of this road remains one of the most painful reminders of the human cost of war in Central Vietnam.
Visit Quang Tri Ancient Citadel, one of the most important battle sites of 1972, and hear stories about the intense fighting that took place in this area. Continue to the Vinh Moc Tunnels, an underground village where local families lived during wartime. Explore different tunnel levels, visit the small museum, and learn how civilians survived underground.
Next, stop at Hien Luong Bridge and the Ben Hai River, once the symbolic border between North and South Vietnam. After lunch at a local restaurant, continue along Highway 9 toward the former battlefields near the Lao border.
In the afternoon, visit Khe Sanh Combat Base, also known as Ta Con Airport, where you can see preserved aircraft, bunkers, and historical exhibits. Make a short stop at Dakrong Bridge and learn about the Paco and Van Kieu communities living in the mountainous area.
Return to Hue in the late afternoon, with hotel drop-off around 6:00 PM. This small-group DMZ tour is designed for travelers who want more than a checklist of war sites. Your guide will connect each stop with stories of divided Vietnam, civilian life, battlefield history, and the human side of the war.
